Truth & Tragedy are a 5-piece post-hardcore band from Bamberg, Germany, formed in September 2020. Truth & Tragedy take inspiration in their music from many alternative genres, and use lived-experiences and current cultural issues to charge their lyrics. Their debut EP ‘Thanks for Nothing’ (2020) and full-length album ‘Innocence Abandoned’ (2021) deal heavily with themes of trauma, substance abuse and alienation, stemming from T&T’s singer’s experiences serving with the US Army in Afghanistan. In 2022, T&T released their single and music video ‘Kelvin’s Not A Rockstar Yet’, their tongue-in-cheek tribute to Weezer’s ‘Beverley Hills’ and Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’. Their following EP ‘Blood on Blood’ (2022) is a return to their heavier roots, through which Truth & Tragedy explore the duality of their music; the darkness of their track ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ in dealing with the attempted suicide of a brother, and the light of ‘Neo’, T&T guitarist’s sweet tribute to the birth of his son. Their latest release 'Voiceless.' (2022) is an instrumental EP of selected tracks from 'Innocence Abandoned' and 'Blood on Blood'. Truth & Tragedy are liked by fans of To Kill Achilles, Being As An Ocean, and Casey.
Initially formed as a duo (Aaron and Freddy) in September 2020, Truth & Tragedy independently released their debut EP ‘Thanks For Nothing’ (2020), before releasing their first full-length album ‘Innocence Abandoned’ (2021) through Artillery Music Group of Kingside Records. In 2021, Truth & Tragedy were joined by Kai, Vitali and Domi for their first live shows, where T&T shared a stage with bands including Oceans, Our Mirage, Watch Out Stampede, Marathonmann and Sperling.
In February 2022, T&T independently released their single, ‘Kelvin’s Not A Rockstar Yet’, with accompanying music video. Their latest EP ‘Blood on Blood’, released May 2022, also features their latest music video for track ‘My Brother’s Keeper’.
Truth & Tragedy have live events scheduled throughout 2022, including Wacken Foundation’s ‘Rock Das Ding’, Stattbahnhof Schweinfurt’s ‘First Act Night’, and a full EU-Tour with shows across Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Italy and Croatia.
The band’s musical style can be described mainly as a mix of post-hardcore and metalcore, while bringing in stylistic aspects of other alternative genres such as melodic hardcore, punk, pop-punk, and slamcore. Truth & Tragedy named bands like To Kill Achilles, Being As An Ocean and Casey as their musical influences.
Truth & Tragedy use a combination of heavy breakdowns and guitar solos with clean vocals and screams, and their lyrics often deal with issues such as trauma, substance abuse, alienation and suicide, stemming from T&T’s singer’s experiences serving in Afghanistan in the US Army. These themes are prevalent in tracks such as ‘Helmand’, ‘Cope’ and ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. More light-hearted tracks include their pop-punk breakup song ‘Burn the Witch’; their 2022 single ‘Kelvin’s Not A Rockstar Yet’ (T&T’s answer to Weezer’s ‘Beverley Hills’ and Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’); and ‘Neo’, a tribute to T&T guitarist’s newborn son.
